Lock it up!

Many AIAP members have wondered how to protect their gear when they travel now that the TSA (Transportation Safety Administration) won't allow locked bags to be checked.  We've recently learned about a new lock being marketed as the Travel Sentry.  The Travel Sentry locks are now approved for use by the TSA.

Each Travel Sentry lock has a special identification number which alerts TSA screeners who can open it by using a special code and key.  The Travel Sentry people report that over 500,000 locks have been sold since November.  The Travel Sentry locks are available at luggage dealers, airport gift shops and Brookstone retail stores.  The retail price for the Travel Sentry locks is between $5 and $10.

It's been reported that a few unfortunate souls have had their Travel Sentry locks cut off by TSA screeners who weren't quite up to speed on the whole process.  The manufacturer guarantees free replacement of any locks which meet this fate.  You can learn more about Travel Sentry locks at their website:  http://www.travelsentry.org/
